NIMS doctors continue protest

Hyderabad, February 28: Medical services for patients at several departments at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) continue to be hit with the resident doctors boycotting duties since a week. They are demanding that the authorities implement the Pay Revision Commission (PRC).

The boycott by 150 doctors impacted outpatient facilities, elective surgeries and patient care at all in-patient wards. Resident doctors ‘on-call’ round-the-clock, have stopped their night visits. Some have even boycotted duties in the emergency department.

Despite inconvenience to scores of patients, the hospital administration and striking doctors have not met even once to hammer out a solution to the stalemate. “They are asking us to go to nearby clinics for treatment. The government should intervene quickly and solve the issue for the benefit of patients,” is a common complaint among patients. “We have approached the High Court and we are hoping for a solution. Our demands are just,” the resident doctors said.
