Hyderabad: There seems to be no stopping to extravagance in marriage functions in the city. Of late a new trend is witnessed which needs to be condemned. Nikah in masjid is a commendable act. But a Nikah in masjid followed by a reception in function hall where orchestra is played is unfortunate.
Late night marriage functions have become matter of course. Recently a meeting was conducted by the South Zone Police Department along with the owners of function halls to discuss fixing of the marriage timings upto 1 o’clock. But this idea was also put to cold storage. Crores of rupees are being spent on marriage functions which may lead to destruction of Muslim society. Police department is against late night functions but they kept silent after a single meeting. In this situation religious scholars should play key role in curbing these social evils.
