Nightclub guards held for tying up boys

Mumbai, June 12: The security guards of a posh nightclub in Belapur tied two teenaged boys to a fire hydrant for over six hours as a punishment for trying to steal some aluminium pipes and metal sheets kept there to renovate the restobar.

Alam Shaikh (13) and Mohammed Asif Idrisi (15) were illegally detained from 6 am to 12.30 pm on Thursday by two guards — Bageecha Singh Bhullar (43) and Ujwal Sharma (21) — of Indulge Restobar. Both the guards were arrested.

The boys’ plight was noticed by a few passersby who then tipped off the police and mediapersons. “We were caught and tied to a pole early morning. Our hands are paining,” said the boys.

They were only released after the police from CBD police station arrived on the spot. When mediapersons asked the security guards why they did not call the police immediately, one of them reasoned: “We were waiting for our `seth’ to come here before taking any action.”

When contacted, the senior inspector of CBD, Ramesh Mohite, said: “It was wrong the on part of the security guards to tie the boys to a pole, instead of calling the police.”

Lounge bar owner Akash Vaswani said: “We have given our statements to the police, you can take it from there.”
