Muslims Will Hold Prayer Vigil for the Victims of Genocide in Burma (Myanmar) Tonight During the Night Vigil of Ramadan (night of Power)
Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid the chairman of Burma Task force USA has appealed to the Muslims in America to dedicate the special prayers of the night of 27th Ramadan to the victims of Burma (Myanmar) genocide.
Most Muslims consider the night of 27th Ramadan, the month of fasting, to be the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) when the Quran was revealed. They hold night prayer vigils praying for God’s blessings and for peace, prosperity and good health. They also hold special prayer services for the oppressed and the unfortunate people of the world.
“This Night of Power, American Muslims are requested to hold special prayers for the Burmese Muslims who have been persecuted for decades and whose citizenship was withdrawn even though they have lived in Burma for centuries. Since June of this year when a new wave of mass murder, mayhem and rapes were unleashed to further ethnically cleanse the Arakan region of Burma of Rohingya Muslims, Muslim activists and leaders in the US have been working to put pressure on Burmese government to stop the pogrom.
These activists and leaders have formed Burma Task Force which will spread awareness about the ethnic cleansing in Burma and work with inter-faith groups, human rights organizations and peace movement to put pressure on Burma to stop the pogrom, restore the citizenship of Rohingya Muslims, bring the perpetrators to justice, and on the neighboring countries to take in the refugees.
