New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday said she had spoken to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao regarding the attack on a Nigerian student in Hyderabad, who in turn assured her that immediate and stringent action would be taken against the culprits.
“I have spoken to Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao Chief Minister Telangana regarding attack on a Nigerian student in Hyderabad. He has promised to take an immediate and stringent action against the culprits,” Swaraj tweeted.
Earlier in a tweet, she said that she had also asked Amar Sinha, Secretary (Economic Relations) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to speak to Telangana Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and monitor this.
Earlier today, the MEA sought a report from the Hyderabad government over a scuffle that broke out between a Nigerian national and a local resident, in which the former was injured.
The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered under IPC section 323- for voluntarily causing hurt.
The altercation erupted on Wednesday between the foreigner and the local over an issue of parking, following which the situation heated up and the Nigerian was injured after he was attacked with iron rods.
The assault comes days after a Congolese national was murdered in New Delhi and the government kicked into action while assuring that they were committed to the security of the nationals in the country. (ANI)
