Nigerian held with Rs 5 cr worth drugs in NCR

New Delhi: Anti-narcotics sleuths have arrested a Nigerian national from near here for allegedly smuggling and possessing banned drugs worth about Rs 5 crore in the international market.

A team of Narcotics Control Bureau’s Delhi zonal unit seized about 2 kilogrammes of heroin from the Greater Noida residence of the 29-year-old foreign national late yesterday.

“The Nigerian is in India on a business visa,” NCB Zonal Director Rohit Sharma said, adding, they are not revealing the identity of the accused as there are some legal procedures to be completed.

“The value of the seized narcotic drugs in the international market is about Rs 5 crore,” Sharma said.

Officials said the agency was working on leads it had got in this regard through a suspect air courier last week as they have also mounted a strict vigil in view of the Christsmas and New Year parties season picking up in the national capital region.

The foreigner has been arrested under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), they said.
