Mumbai, July 09: A Nigerian drug peddler, who allegedly supplied narcotics to college students in south Mumbai, has been arrested, police said here today. Yousuf Abu Bakar was nabbed with 15 grams cocaine with street value of Rs 45,000 near Mumbai University at Kalina in suburban Santacruz yesterday, an Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) official said.
Bakar allegedly supplied the contraband to Mohit Ramchandani (23) and Ifzan Izrar Baig (19) who were arrested last week with four grams of cocaine near a college on July 1. They were later granted bail with a surety of Rs 10,000 each.
The students told police that a Nigerian Yousuf had supplied them cocaine following which they launched a manhunt to trace him. “We got Yousuf”s mobile number from the students.
Soon after the arrest of the students, Yousuf switched off his mobile phone. Two days ago, he switched on it and we closely tracked him with the help of technology,” Mrityunjay Hiremath, ANC officer told PTI. Seven other students from reputed colleges of south Mumbai had been let off after nothing was found with them.
Urine and blood samples of the seven were sent for forensic tests, Hiremath said adding, “we are yet to receive the reports”. Further investigation was on, he said .
