London, Aug 14 : Australia’s controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios could face suspension for making an ‘ insulting remark’ to Stanislas Wawrinka during their Rogers Cup match in Montreal.
The 20-year-old apologised after being fined 6,400 pounds for making a derogatory suggestion about Wawrinka’s girlfriend.
However, Kyrgios insisted he should not face any more punishment, saying that everything has been sorted out after he was fined and apologised in public and privately as well, the BBC reported.
The ATP said in a statement that it had begun a process to determine if his actions also constitute a violation of the Player Major Offence provisions set forth under ‘Aggravated Behaviour’ or ‘Conduct Contrary to the Integrity of the Game’.
It added that the investigation opens up the possibility of further penalties which could include monetary fines and/or suspension from ATP events. (ANI)
