NIA takes U-turn in Malegaon blast case

After giving the clean chit to Sadhvi Pragya in Malegaon blast case of 2008, now National Investigation Agency NIA had to change its stand in the court. According to Free Press Journal even after giving a clean chit to Sadhvi, NIA had no other choice but to try the case against her in the court. Interestingly for the past two years, the central agency has been describing the probe done by anti-terrorism squad (ATS) probe as false but now it is forced to depend on that only.

It must be noted that the ATS team led by late Hemant Karkare had exposed the role of saffron terrorists in the blasts but after the case was handed over to NIA, all the saffron terrorists were declared innocent. However, Special Court refused to accept NIA investigations and also refused to discharge Sadhvi Pragya from the case. Hence NIA has no choice but to proceed the case on the basis of probe done by ATS.

It must be noted that a special NIA court is likely to frame charges against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit and six other accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case on 7 February.
