New Delhi, August 17: The NHRC today asked the state governments to strengthen human rights commissions in their respective jurisdictions saying the bodies need to improve their complaint management systems.
“All state governments should take steps to strengthen their Human Rights Commissions. Mere setting of the State Human Rights Commission will not serve any purpose if they are not provided with sufficient manpower and infrastructure for their effective functioning,” NHRC chairperson Justice KG Balakrishnan said.
He was addressing a meeting of the representatives of the state human rights commissions here in the Capital.
Balakrishnan asked the state Human Rights Commissions to improve their complaint management systems and offered assistance of NHRC in this regard.
The NHRC can assist in providing material and resource persons to the State Human Rights Commissions for the training of their personnel in the area of human rights, he said.
