The National Human Rights Commission has expressed anger at the IPS officer PA Sitaramanjaneyulu for killing innocent people in the name of encounters when he was the SP of Guntur and Kurnool districts.
Sitaramanjaneyulu is facing charges of engineering 16 encounters during his tenure as SP of districts. The NHRC directed the Central government to ensure that ex gratia was paid to the families of the victims.
Responding to the direction, the Central government has directed the State government to provide Rs 5 lakhs as exgratia to each of the families. Tehsildars of the districts have handed over cheques to the families of the victims as per the directions of the State government.
One Chandrasekhar, a lawyer of Guntur, has complained to the NHRC about these encounters in 2002. After inquiring about the charge for 10 years, the NHRC has decided that these encounters were fake.
