Hyderbad, October 25: The National Federation for New States (NFNS), an organisation demanding reorganisation of states, has decided to intensify its efforts for formation of separate Telangana state.
The NFNS has already constituted a people’s tribunal with a former Supreme Court judge, a retired High Court chief justice and a High Court judge. Seven members will be on the tribunal and they will furnish information to the judges. If Srikrishna Committee fails to recommend for formation of separate Telangana state in its report, the people’s tribunal will release its report demanding a separate state.
The tribunal will conduct its first public hearing from October 27 to 30 at the Public Gardens in the city. The Senior Citizens Committee which interviewed the family members of Telangana martyrs, will present its report to the tribunal at the the public hearing. NFNS convener P Nirupreddy, Raja Bundela (Bundelkhand), Munish Tamang (Gorkhaland) and Gajanan Ambedkar (Vidarbha) held a meeting here today and discussed their programme.
The NFNS members already toured Adilabad and Nizamabad districts to elicit people’s views on separate state.
The NFNS convener said they would not believe that the Central government appointed Srikrishna Committee for formation of Telangana state. It was trying to use the committee to postpone a decision on the crucial issue. At the national level, the Congress and BJP have not submitted their reports to the Srikrishna Committee. Same was the case with the state Congress and TDP. “We are not creating any confusion on Telangana issue, but we would expose the government’s lack of commitment to formation of separate state,’’ he said.
