Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Saturday said that the ensuing by-elections to be held in 18 Assembly constituencies in the state would be a referendum on the Congress government.
Talking to media persons, Lagadapati expressed confidence that the party would win the by-elections with a thumping majority. He said that the Congress party failed in the by-elections held in Telangana as the statehood sentiment was strong in the region. He also said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana should not be held responsible for party’s drubbing in the by-elections as they were held in some peculiar conditions.
Responding to Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement that the Lok Sabha may witness mid-term elections by next year, he said there was no chance for mid-term polls in the country as the national parties were not in position to face them. He said there was no threat to Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
