Newlywed woman killed by in-laws, area tense

UP: Despite government enacting stringent laws including the Dowry Prohibition Act, it seems that ‘dowry’ still prevails in the society. In many instances, women are either harassed or killed by husbands or in-laws.

In one such incident, a newlywed woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws at Garhi Village in Shamli District, UP. Her murder triggered tension in the area.

According to the report published in Business Standard, the victim is identified as Sana Khan (28), wife of Ariz Hasan. The couple got married nine months ago.

After the death of his sister, Sana Khan’s brother lodged a police complaint alleging that she was being harassed by her in-laws for Rs.10 lakh.

Police registered a case against the victim’s husband and five other in-laws.

Meanwhile, the alleged murder of the woman triggered tension in the area. Demanding action against the accused persons, villagers blocked the road near Navalti Chowk.
