Hyderabad, July 01: A couple, who recently got married against the wishes of the girl’s parents, ended their lives at Langer Hauz on Wednesday.
The two, M Anil (22) and Leela (20), were medical representatives in different firms and fell in love at work. They were residents of Prasanth Nagar at Langer Hauz.
Police said Anil’s family agreed to their marriage but Leela’s parents, who reside at Gowlipura in the Old City, opposed the inter-caste wedding. Anil and Leela got married on May 16, 2010 at Arya Samaj and had been living with Anil’s family.
As the couple did not venture out of the room in the morning, Anil’s mother Lalitha Bai opened the door and found them hanging from the ceiling. “The couple reportedly had disputes over family matters and had been fighting over them for the past 20 days. Just 15 days ago, they consumed sleeping pills to end their lives but were saved by the family members,” Langer Hauz police inspector G Sridhar said. Police did not find any suicide note left behind by the couple. Leela went to her parent’s house a couple of times after the marriage, police said.
Anil’s brother Venugopal, a barber with the Bahadurpura police station, claimed that the couple were living happily and did not have any differences.
There was no harassment for dowry by Anil’s family, police said.
“We are yet to ascertain the reasons for the suicide,” Sridhar said adding a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) was registered and investigation is on.
