Newly-appointed Zidane upbeat on leading `difficult` Real

Johannesburg: Zinedine Zidane, who has been named as the new manager of Real Madrid, has admitted that it would be difficult to lead his new team, but added it will be a stimulating challenge to do so.

Describing Real as the ‘best team’ in the world, the 43-year-old said that he was ready to take up the challenges ahead and added that he would try his best to bring victories to the club.

Zidane, who has until now managed Madrid’s ‘B’ team, insisted that the immediate goal for his side would be to try to win the Champions League and La Liga.

According to Sport24, Zidane’s appointment had received flurry of doubts over the Frenchman’s lack of experience.

Spain’s most read sports daily, Marca, wrote that although Zidane was a great football legend for Real, his coaching experience was inversely proportional to his experience as a footballer.

Earlier, Real had sacked manager Rafael Benitez after just seven months due to the side’s recent slump in form in the La Liga.

The 32-time Spanish champions failed to take advantage of the lead and slipped four points adrift of local rivals Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga following their 2-2 draw in the tournament clash against Valencia. (ANI)
