Newborns gifted gold rings on Jayalalithaa’s birthday in Chennai

Chennai: Newborns at a government women’s hospital in Chennai struck gold on Wednesday with a ruling AIADMK MLA gifting gold rings to them coinciding with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s birthday.

“I have been distributing gold rings to children born on (February 24) the occasion of Amma’s birthday since 1991,” Royapuram MLA and former Assembly Speaker D Jayakumar told PTI.

Jayalalithaa is addressed as Amma (mother) by her supporters.

The MLA said he had distributed gold rings to about 10 infants this morning and will give away the rest tomorrow after getting the final number of children born till midnight of today.

Jayakumar also gave goodies to the mothers of the newborns.

The AIADMK General Secretary turned 68 today and her supporters took to various ways to express their love and affection for their ‘Puratchi Thalaivi’ (revolutionary leader), including over 1000 persons getting her image and the word ‘Amma’ in Tamil tattooed on their forearms here.
