New York art on display in Berlin

German, March 14: A collection of contemporary art from the US state of New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) with works ranging from 1935 to 2004 has been put on display in Germany.

The Judith Rothschild Contemporary Drawings Collection, exhibited in New York for the first time two years ago, is currently being displayed in the German capital, Berlin,

“This is an exhibition with drawings, not paintings. So, the drawings are a bit neglected in the art world because they normally are stored and you can’t see them every day. This is why we had the idea that we should do more about drawings, and this is why we did this exhibition with drawings of contemporary art from the MoMA,” said Director of Martin Gropius Bau, Gereon Sievernich.

The collection comprises of notes, calligraphy, drawings, and collages by the late artist, Judith Rothschild between the years 1935 and 2004.

The trustee of the Judith Rothschild Foundation began putting the exhibit together back in 2003, with some of the work being quite fresh from the artist’s studio.

The foundation’s goal, as mentioned in Judith Rothschild’s Will, was to support young artists and to create a “cross-section of a moment in time.”

Over the next three months some 100,000 to 200,000 viewers are expected to visit the contemporary art exhibit.
