New water connections to 1 lakh houses: HMWS

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has decided to sanction one lakh new water connections as part of Krishna phase-III drinking water supply project.

“Currently, water board is supplying 385 (340+45) MGD of water to nearly 8.20 lakh connections. Though several areas were benefiting due to partial supplies, still many areas were not getting water due to lack of distribution network.

Now, the board has decided to sanction one lakh new water connections as we are getting an additional 45 MGD from Krishna phase-III. According to P S Suryanarayana, director-revenue HMWS&SB, instructions were given to general managers concerned to conduct a survey in tail-end areas in their respective jurisdiction and submit a report within a week.”

“Based on the report, we will ask residents to apply for new water connections. We hope to sanction one lakh new water sanctions in the next three months.

The board hopes that the new water connections would improve its revenue. Currently, the board recives a revenue of Rs 90 crore (billing amount). Once we start issuing bills for the one lakh water connections, our revenue may go up to Rs 100 crore,” the official said.
