Abu Dhabi, January 30: The Centre for Waste Management – Abu Dhabi has set up a new centre in the Western Region of the emirate which will officially be opened soon.
Talking to Khaleej Times, Ghadeer El Kheshenan, spokesperson of the centre, said the centre is already operational with a bunch of staff members but it would be officially opened later.
Under the slogan “To Save Our Western Region”, the centre organised a massive public awareness campaign last week in which residents and students were educated about the usage of black and green bins that are already installed. Every day 25-50 students from different public schools of the region took part in the campaign.
The campaign aimed to educate the society about different methods of waste collections and upgrading of services in the areas of Madinat Zayed, Liwa, Ghayathi, Al Marfaa, Ruwais and Al Silaa in the region.
It also focused on the importance of maintaining the cultural and aesthetic appearance of the region and the cleanliness and safety of the surrounding environment.
The campaign was held as part of the national recycling pilot project, initiated by the centre last year in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
A range of activities and events were performed to attract the population in general and students of the region in particular at City Mall in Madinat Zayed.
Hamad Al Ameri, General Manager of the centre, has urged the citizens to cooperate with the centre in its public awareness efforts and to ensure the success of this important project which is aimed at elevating the level of hygiene of the area, and improve the aesthetic appearance and cultural heritage of the region.
