Dubai, June 20: UAE travellers planning road trips have been given a boost ahead of the summer holiday period with the launch of a fast track system to deliver the necessary travel documents by the Automobile and Touring Club.
The Automobile and Touring Club (ATCUAE) of the UAE has launched a three-part application process for travel documents at its Dubai headquarters in Al Mamzar that will enable issuance of documents in a single visit.
The documents include a trip ticket or Carnet de Passages en Douane, issued by the ATCUAE, Certificate of Tourism, issued by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to allow vehicles to be driven across borders to destinations beyond the GCC and transit visa for vehicles crossing into Saudi or through the Kingdom, issued by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
Up until now, travellers would have to make separate visits to other designated offices to apply for Saudi transit visas.
The fast track initiative follows a booklet launched by RTA and ATCUAE offering advice to road travelers making trips to Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and other Middle East countries this summer.
In order to make the journey safe and enjoyable, motorists have been advised to check their brakes and tyre pressures. Drivers must take regular breaks, drink plenty of water and stay refreshed as heat could cause fatigue which could lead to accidents.
