India claims to be a secular country but in practice it hardly follows it. The latest example is the release of New Coins of Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 denominations by Reserve Bank of India which contain Vishnu Devi Temple situated in Kashmir on completion of 25 years of this temple.
RBI in its circular issued on 26th April 2013 informed that it has decided to release five rupee coins to commemorate the silver jubilee of Mata Vishnu Devi Shrine Board. It also reported that in accordance with the RBI Act 2011, these coins are being released.
Earlier the photos of Mahatma Gandhi were inscribed on coins. It is a matter of serious concern for the Muslims and their Ulema whether one can offer his prayer keeping these coins in his pocket. In the past, RBI released five rupee coin to commemorate one thousand years of Tanjavur Temple of Tamil Nadu. Muslim scholar did not raise their voice at that time. It is duty of the Govt. to respect the sentiments of the people belonging to all the religions so that they could have faith in the Govt.
