Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, CM of AP has stated that AP State will formulate New Sports Policy after consulting the eminent sportsmen.
The proposed sports policy will be exemplary for the country. A high level meeting will be convened after the London Olympics.
CM was addressing a gathering organized by “The Hindu” English Daily Newspaper for re-issue of its magazine “Sports Star” yesterday in Hyderabad.
CM told that Govt. of AP is encouraging sports and games activities in the state. It will inculcate sportsman spirit among the younger generation of sportsmen. He told that in every Assembly constituency a stadium will be constructed on an area of 5 to 10 acres with an estimate of Rs. 1.5 crore. CM also said that in schools, one period daily will be allocated for sports activities in each class. Later, physical education will be included as a subject in the school curriculum. Sports budget has been increased from Rs. 20 crore to Rs. 220 crore this year. Recently, financial incentives were given to sportspersons to the tune of Rs. 4.5 crore. He assured that 2% reservation in employment for sportsmen will be re introduced.
