Govt. of Telangana has decided to issue new ration cards containing Telangana logo and the card will be of pink colour. The two tier system of ration cards has been abandoned. Now only one card will be issued which will be for the poor persons. The persons above poverty line will not be given any ration card. So far white and pink colour ration cards used to be issued. Poor persons used to get ration from ration shops at concessional rates. After reviewing the situation of bogus ration cards in Telangana, Govt. has decided to cancel them. It was noticed that more ration cards were issued than the number of poor persons.
Poor persons will be able to get ration at the rate of Re. 1 kg for rice and sugar, wheat, edible oil at concessional rates. Govt. believes that only deserving families will get these concessions. New ration cards are likely to be issued from the first week of February. TRS Govt. has decided to abandon Amma Hastam Scheme which was started by the previous Govt. The Congress Govt. had started this scheme under which a package of 9 food grains was given at the rate of Rs. 185 but it received cold response from the public. It has therefore been cancelled.
