New projects to ease traffic congestions in city

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will spend Rs 153.38 crore on various developmental projects whose foundation stone will be laid by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday.

The GHMC will spend Rs 43.48 crore on the first phase of improvement of 7.45 km stretch of Old Mumbai Highway from Tolichowki to Gachibowli. This includes Rs 5 crore toward the land acquisition and utility shifting. As many as 243 properties will be affected due to this project, which is likely to be completed in a span of 24 months. Through this project, the GHMC proposes to develop the Old Bombay Road from Tolichowki to Gachbowli as Express way by constructing the service road on either side to cater the local traffic.

Similarly, Rs 35 crore will be spend on rooad from Botanical Garden to Old Mumbai Road via Masjid Banda village. As many as 164 properties and about one kilometre of forest land from Botanical Garden to Sriramnagar Basthi will be affected for this 3.8 kilometre stretch of road. This will be a six-lane divided road with 2 Metre cycle track and 3 Metre footpath-cum-drain. To be completed in 24 months, this road will form a major link between Hi-tech city to Old Bomby raod, which will ease the traffic on Kondapur main road and also will cater to increase in traffic due to many multi-storied building complexes which are coming up.

The GHMC will spend Rs 29 crore on widening of 3.43 KM of road at Nandavanam, from Moghal-ka-Nala to Puranapul. This includes 1.6 KM new formation and balance is 7 Metre wide road. The proposed road is from Puranapul to Moghal-ka-Nala connecting inner ring roaod will form a major link road from old city to Airport. Further, as the existing roads at Puranapul junction have already saturated in terms of traffic volume and also widening is not possible on these roads because of many religious structures. This new road will cater the traffic leading to inner ring road, Jiyaguda and Karwan from Old City.

An amount of Rs 45.90 crore will be spent for the construction of flyover at Tolichowki junction. The length of the flyover will be 650 Metres and 55 properties will be affected due to the project. The flyover will have 38 Spans. It will be a split flyover with 12.5 M each with three-lane carriage way on either side. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

As present, the Tolichowki junction is carrying 15,000 PCU, causing regular traffic jams. The construction of Grade Seperator (flyover) will ease the congestion at Tolichowki junction and will reduce travel time for traffic from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli and Hitech City and vice-versa. Further, the Grade Seperator is proposed as the road from Tolichowki to Gachibowli is proposed to be developed as Expressway. (INN)
