Hyderabad, February 14: Jan Teatro took shape when the students of the department of Hispanic studies, the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, decided to introduce the Hispanic theatre to the city. El Tragaluz is the Jan Teatro’s maiden performance.
El Tragaluz depicts the repercussions of the Spanish Civil War, a war that lasted several decades.
The author of the play, Antonio Buero Vallejo, is one of the most prominent playwrights in the history of Spain. El Tragaluz portrays how unjustly war affects the lives of many.
Both narrators and actors did justice to their characters. Despite the linguistic barrier, the audience of over 400 theatre enthusiasts not only enjoyed the play, but clapped enthusiastically at curtain call.
Jan Teatro are currently preparing for their next production, which is to be staged on Women’s day.
