New party formed by SNDP recruiting agency for BJP,RSS: Chandy

Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today alleged that the new political party headed by SNDP General Secretary Vellapally Natesan is a recruiting agency of BJP and RSS in Kerala.

“I see the new party as a recruiting agency of BJP and RSS in the state. They could not win a single seat in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections so far,” he told reporters here.

A day after Natesan announced formation of the new political party — Bharat Dharma Jana Sena, Chandy also said the move by the present leadership of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam was against stated principles of the outfit, formed by renowned saint reformer Sree Narayana Guru.

Natesan had announced the launch of the new outfit at a massive rally on Shankumukham beach in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday following the culmination of his 16-day ‘Samathwa Munnata Yatra’ to unite Hindu caste outfits.

Questioning the secular credentials of mainstream political parties, Natesan had hit out at both the ruling Congress -led UDF and CPI(M)-headed LDF in the state and said it was an ‘adjustment rule’ all these years by the two alliances, which have enjoyed stints in power alternately.

The formation of a new political outfit ahead of Assembly polls next year assumes significance as SNDP has been warming up to BJP in the state since the recently held civic polls, which saw the saffron party improving its position, though not on expected lines.

The BJP-SNDP tie up had come after a series of visits by BJP President Amit Shah to Kerala and meetings with Natesan, who also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi recently.

Both UDF and LDF had fiercely attacked the SNDP leader in the run up to the civic polls and during the yatra, which began from Kasaragod on November 21.

Meanwhile, Congress alleged that Vellapally Natesan has become a ‘middleman’ of the Sangh Parivar in the state.

Speaking at the 60th death anniversary celebrations of B R Ambedkar at state Congress headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, KPCC President V M Sudheeran said Sangh Parivar forces had failed to make inroads in Kerala and so were searching for ‘new agents’ in the state.

“Unfortunately Vellapaly Natesan is doing the work of a middleman for the Sangha Parivar in the state’, he said in an apparent reference to SNDP’s tie up with BJP in the state.

Sree Narayana Dharma Paripala Yogam (SNDP), is a social organisation of numerically strong backward ezhava community in the state founded by renowned social reformer and spiritual leader Sree Narayana Guru.

“There is nothing personal against Natesan. The opposition is towards his Sangh Parivar politics’ he added.

Lashing out at the SNDP chief, Sudheeran alleged that he was now engaged in spreading the messages of Nathuram Godse and has become a destroyer of teachings of Sree Narayana Guru.

Sudheeran also alleged that Natesan was ‘misuing’ his position in SNDP to spread Sangh Parivar policies and that he was proving himself not fit to hold the post of SNDP General secretary, which was held by many prominent personalities.

Yesterday while speaking at the party formation function here, Natesan had attacked Sudheeran, also from Ezhava community and described him as a ‘renegade’.
