Hyderabad, November 27: The new year of Islamic calendar heralding 1433 Hijri commenced on Saturday evening. This follows the sighting of the crescent of the first month, Muharram-ul-Haram.
Moulana Syed Qubool Pasha Shattari, president, Ruat-e-Hilal Committee, announced the sighting of the new moon, which was clearly visible in Hyderabad and other places.
The 10{+t}{+h}of Muharram, which is observed as ‘Youme Ashoora’ by the Shia community will take place on December 6. With the commencement of Muharram, the 40-odd Shia ‘Anjumans’ started ‘azadari’ (mourning) in the old city.
Meanwhile, the Minorities Welfare Department has decided to hold a meeting on Monday at Secretariat in connection with the Muharram arrangements. All the city MLAs, MLCs and MPs are expected to attend the meeting, which will be chaired by Minorities Welfare Minister Syed Ahmadullah.
