New Intel devices to make rural banking easier

Hyderabad, October 15: Now banking is all set to become more secure and easy for people living in rural areas thanks to the city-based Analogics Tech India Limited which launched two models of hand-held devices to facilitate easy banking and also disbursement of amount to beneficiaries under various government schemes.

For the first time in the country, Analogics Tech India Limited, in association with Intel Embedded and Communications Group (ECG), launched its Windows/ Linus-based hand-held devices in the city today. The hand-held devices – Terrain and Atlas – are equipped with the Intel’s Atom processor and run on Windows/ Linux operating systems for various innovative applications in financial, industrial, mobile and online applications.

“Both the devices come with a TFT colour display with touch panel, 45 keys Qwerty keypad, 1 GB SDRAM and integrated 8 GB SSD along with external ports for USB and wireless features like bluetooth, WLAN and GSM/GPRS/CDMA.

The battery lasts for about 10 hours at a stretch,’’ said M Surender Reddy, managing director of Analogics. Both the Terrain and Atlas models are specifically designed for industrial, field and commercial use but are also being used for rural banking, enrolment access control and other such operations. These equipments come handy in schemes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) or National Unique Identity Cards and avoid misappropriation of funds by middle-men.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, Intel ECG marketing director (emerging markets) Sanat Rao said that Intel was proud to be associated with Analogics to produce these unique devices for the benefit of financial and banking sectors in India.

The previous versions of such hand-held devices manufactured by Analogics Limited were popular for their use for electricity and water billing at doorsteps, spot ticketing in buses without conductors and also for billing at retail stores.
