Dubai, April 08: A separate facility for processing the entry and exit of heavy trucks and customs procedures, has helped traffic flow at the Hatta border crossing point, a top officer said.
“The move further expedites the entry and exit procedures of private vehicles, particularly during holidays and weekends,” said Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director General of the Dubai General Department for Residency and Foreigners Affairs, who visited the facility on Wednesday.
“The new premises have also helped facilitate procedures for empty trucks that used to wait as long as loaded trucks.”
Major-General Al Merri said the Hatta border point has seen an increase in the transactions processed in the first quarter of this year.
“As many as 3,336 applications were seen through from January 1 to March 31, 2010 as compared to 1,607 transactions over the same period in 2009. The residency staff there also managed to process 11,824 transactions from January 2009 to March 31, 2010.”
Meanwhile, Major-General Al Merri honoured Sergeant Khaled Abdullah Mohammed for refusing to accept a bribe from an illegal visitor.
“The man tried to bribe Sergeant Mohammed to let him enter the country without clearing the Iris scan for being banned from entering the country.”
Major-General Al Merri, accompanied by top officers, also visited the staff at the temporary points.
