The new 450-bed emergency block to come up at Niloufer Hospital, initiated about four years ago is not yet completed. According to sources it may take some more time to get in working mode.
Niloufer Hospital at present constitutes of 500 beds, with an emergency wing having 250 beds. Niloufer Hospital assumed to be a top government-run institute for children. Children and pregnant women from all over the state are referred to the hospital.
As the present emergency block was unable to cater to the increasing number of cases, a 450-bedded new block was planned adjacent to the present emergency block.
Various factors including non-availability of funds, the construction of the new block had been prolonging from past four years. Now the good news is the new block is about to get completed.
But unless we recruit the staff and required equipment installed, the block may not open for use. About 500 staff including Doctors, Nurses and Para medical staff are required for the new block.
According to sources 45 crore was spent for construction, and 15 crore was allocated for the healthcare equipment. “We have given an order for equipment and soon the new block will be equipped with all facilities,” said hospital superintendent K Devaraj.
