Bhim Sain Bassi, the new Police commissioner of Delhi, has his priorities clear – he wants to make the national capital safe for women.
Bassi, who took over from outgoing chief Neeraj Kumar, said on Wednesday that he will work to ensure that a slew of new steps are being introduced to ensure that women feel safe at all times in the city.
“We have identified routes which are frequented by ladies or young girls. Special patrolling is being ensured along those routes,” Bassi said in an interview.
The 57-year-old new police chief asserted that safety of women is one of the primary tasks which the Police have to shoulder because they (women) are the vulnerable segment of our society. “They are far more vulnerable than their male counterparts … We have to ensure that they feel safe and secure,”” he said.
Referring to the December 16 gang-rape incident which had shook the conscience of the city, Bassi said that the Delhi police have been conscious of the need to ensure the safety of women.
