New committee for mass marriages of Muslim girls _ old wine in a new bottle

Hyderabad, June 27: The government of Andhra Pradesh has formed a new committee for Muslim girls’ mass marriages scheme and retained all the older members. However the responsibility of implementation of the scheme is taken over by Minority Finance Corporation from State Waqf Board. Minority Welfare department issued a GO on June 22 and handed over the responsibility of implementation of the scheme to Minority Finance Corporation.

This is the only committee of the state which neither has a chairman nor has any fixed tenure. Member of the former committee Mr. Mohammad Khaleelur Rahman former MP has been replaced by his own son Mr. Mohammad Khaleequr Rahman. The woman member Ms Nuzhat Baig has been discharged of her duties.

No other party’s representative except Congress has been made the member of the committee.

It remains to be seen if the committee with fresh changes will stimulate the scheme or it would be synonymous to old wine in a new bottle.
