Bhadrachalam, February 07: The long pending construction of a bridge on the Godavari river at Pusur village in Wazeedu mandal is going to materialise soon. Thanks to the Left Wing Extremism Scheme, the Central Government has sanctioned a 2-km bridge across the Godavari and allocated `300 crore for the project.
Of the total amount, Rs.200 crore is meant for bridge construction and `100 crore to lay a 40 km approach roads. One approach road will be laid from the border of Chhattisgarh to the bridge.
It will connect Hyderabad with Bhupalapatnam in Chhattisgarh which comes under the purview of national highway No 202.
The National Highways Authority of India has already invited tenders for the project. Water and soil samples have been sent for testing. The bridge with 38 pillars will connect Pusur in Khammam district with Mullekatta village in Eturunagaram mandal of Warangal district.
NHAI regional officer Balakrishna, executive engineer Chandrasekhar and deputy executive engineer Narasimha Murthy visited Pusur recently.
It will be the second bridge on the Godavari river in Khammam district. The first bridge is at Bhadrachalam. The new bridge is useful to people living in Wazeedu, Venkatapuram and Cherla mandals and Chhattisgarh border villages.
Now, people of the region have to take a 150 km route to reach Bhadrachalam if they want to go to Warangal or other Telangana districts. People of Chhattisgarh will also get access to Warangal and Hyderabad.
According to Narasimha Murthy, the bridge tenders will be finalised soon.
