New ATM machine tampered, Rs 5.65 lakh stolen

Ambala (Haryana), May 03: An ATM of Punjab National Bank, which was to be inaugurated here today, was tampered with and Rs 5.65 lakh withdrawn by some unidentified person, police said.

The cash was taken out by opening the chest of the ATM last night. Interestingly, the outlet is located just adjoining the police post of the civil hospital which works round-the-clock.

The installation work of the ATM was completed at around 11 pm last night and Rs 6 lakh in cash was placed in the machine. An amount of Rs 35,000 was withdrawn from it on trial basis by authorised personnel, a bank official said.

It was in the morning that a bank official noticed that the chest was opened and the ATM also found tampered, he said, adding that the ATM has been sealed as of now.

The bank has lodged a police complaint in this regard.
