Never before: Stephenians chant ‘Azadi’ against CAA-NRC, JNU

NEW DELHI: Delhi University’s premier college, St Stephens on Wednesday boycotted classes in solidarity with the recent attacks on students including Jamia Milia Islamia and JNU and against the nationwide stir in university campuses against the Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Register of Citizens and the National Population Register.

With chants of ‘azadi’ and Faiz’s iconic poem ‘Hum Dekhenge’, scores of students also supported by members of the faculty spontaneously walked out of classes to join a protest in solidarity with the students of JNU and Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Register of Citizens and the National Population Register possibly the first time in three decades.

During the protest, the students assembled in the college lawns and also read aloud the Preamble of the Constitution.

Excluding Muslims, the Citizenship Amendment Act grants citizenship to six non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who came to India till December 31, 2014.
