Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: As the crisis within the Samajwadi Party refused to die down, the doctors conducted a health check-up of Mulayam Singh Yadav at his residence here this evening after he complaint of high blood pressure.
The Samajwadi Party split on Sunday with a national convention declaring Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav the new national president, a post that was held by his father.
The convention also made Mulayam, the patron of the party.
As the day progressed, the fight between the rival factions turned ugly, with supporters of the two groups fighting for the party office.
However, Akhilesh justified the turn of events in the party even as he admitted that he had taken a ‘tough’ decision.
“Sometimes to protect the ones you love you must make the right decision. What I did today was a tough decision but one that I had to take,” he tweeted.
The Chief Minister after being proposed as the national president said his respect for his father was more than ever, adding that he would stand against those conspiring against the party.
Amid reports of the Akhilesh camp mobilising the supporters for the convention, Mulayam in a letter issued by the party declared the meeting ‘unconstitutional’ and warned of strict action against anyone who attended it.
The meeting adopted three resolutions through voice vote. First, that Akhilesh should immediately replace Mulayam as the party’s chairman and that the founder of the party should be given the role of ‘chief mentor’.
Second, Akhilesh’s uncle, Shivpal Yadav, should be removed from the position of UP state president of the party with immediate effect.
Third, Amar Singh, also seen by the Akhilesh faction as the main troublemaker, should be expelled from the party immediately. (ANI)
