Nepalese PM cancels NY visit amid anti-Constitution protests

Kathmandu: Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has cancelled his visit to New York, where he was scheduled to address the 70th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), amid ongoing protests against the country’s newly adopted Constitution.

According to The Himalayan Times, Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Prakash Man Singh will head the delegation to the UNGA and the Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, being held in New York on September 25-27.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the Koirala called off his visit in view of the political developments in the country after the promulgation of the Constitution on September 20.

He was scheduled to depart for New York this afternoon and return on October 4. (ANI)
