Nepal quake: World’s greatest mountaineer Apa Sherpa worried about his homeland’s future

A mountaineer, who has scaled the mighty Everest for a record 21 times, has said that people have “lost everything” and are scared and depressed after a massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal last month.

Apa Sherpa, the world’s greatest mountaineer, said that he feared for the future of his homeland, reported The Mirror.

While noting that the weather would soon get cold and windy and people will have to wire their roofs to the house foundations for protections against wind, the 55-year-old mountaineer asked, “How will we manage this year with just tarps and tents?”

The U.S. climber had raced off a suspension bridge swaying wildly as the massive quake struck the Himalayan nation.

His comments came as the death toll from the quake neared 8,000 mark. (ANI)
