Nepal quake: Naidu urges MPs to donate one-month salary

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said he had proposed in the Parliament that all the MPs should donate their one month’s salary towards earthquake relief in Nepal.

“As a Parliamentary Minister, I proposed that we should all contribute one-month of our salary for rehabilitation program in Nepal and the

affected states in India. All political parties unanimously agreed to this,” said Naidu.

“The entire house joined together in expressing solidarity to the people affected in the Nepal earthquake,” he added.

Naidu pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also been positive about extending train facilities for Nepali migrants in the

country.

“Since a lot of Nepalis work in India, they are worried and are now heading towards Nepal. I spoke to the Prime Minister. He said ‘if

necessary, train facility will be further extended’,” Naidu said.

A massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday, followed by 55 aftershocks. The calamity, one of the worst in over 80 years, has

killed over 3,200 people.

India is sending tonnes of blankets, food and water for the quake survivors in the Himalayan nation.

Military aircrafts with medical equipments and relief teams have been sent to the neighbouring nation along with 285 members of the National

Disaster Response Force (NDRF). (ANI)
