Nepal Quake: Foreign students hold candle light vigil in Vizag

Students from different nationalities held a candle light vigil here on Tuesday over the massive earthquake in Nepal that has claimed over 3,800 lives.

They paid tributes to those who lost their lives in earthquake by singing the national anthem of Nepal.

The rally was inaugurated and led by Andhra University Vice -chancellor G.S.N.Raju.

“So many students from Nepal were studying various courses in Andhra University.Due to God’s grace all of their family members were safe but most of them lost their homes.So I am requesting all the vizagites to come forward to help them,” said Raju.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crisis management meeting along with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

He also donated one month’s salary to help with the rescue efforts.

Saturday’s earthquake, which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, resulted in the deaths of over 3800 people in Nepal, while 72 people were killed in India.

The calamity, one of the worst in over 80 years, was followed by 55 aftershocks. (ANI)
