Nepal President visits Salar Jung Museum

Hyderabad, February 1: The President of Nepal, Mr Ram Bharan Yadav, visited the Salar Jung Museum here this morning. He was accompanied by his daughter and Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Ms Rukma Shumsher Rana, and other officials.

The Nepalese President, who had a darshan of Lord Sri Venkateshwara at Tirumala on Sunday, arrived here this morning and visited the Salar Jung Museum at 10 am. In connection with his visit, the city police imposed traffic restrictions from Hotel Taj Krishna to the Museum from 9.30 am to 10.15 am, from the museum to Hotel Taj Krishna from 10.45 am to 11.30 and from Taj Krishna to Begumpet airport from 12.45 pm to 1.45 pm.

Mr Ram Bharan Yadav went round the Founder’s Gallery, Western Gallery, French Gallery, Clocks Gallery and inspected the paintings, glass, porcelain and ivory artefacts in the museum during his hour-long visit. He was very much impressed with the life-sized marble sculpture of a Veiled Rebecca, a masterpiece of the Salar Jung Museum. He was also impressed with the Musical Clock, another attraction in the museum.

The Museum Director, Mr A Nagender Reddy, explained details of the various exhibits and the history of the museum to the visiting dignitary. Mr Yadav said, “The Museum is very rich in its collection made over 200 years by three generations of Salar Jung’s. I admire their upkeep by the Andhra Pradesh government. The rulers then have done a great service to the artists of the day. The Museum is the pride of India. I congratulate the management for their commendable job,” the Nepal President wrote in the Visitors Book.
