Nepal’s former Supreme Court Chief Justice today said that political parties need to act in the national interest and provide the nation with the long-delayed Constitution on the stipulated date as per their commitment.
Addressing a function in Bharatpur, Chitwan district in central Nepal, Khil Raj Regmi, who had successfully conducted the second Constituent Assembly (CA) election in November last year as the head of the interim election government said that the parties can easily fulfill the promise made to the people by drafting the new constitution by January 22 next year.
“They just have to show some political will,” he said.
Former chief justice Regmi recalled that the parties were quite excited and proactive during the election conducted under his leadership.
“They had expressed serious commitment to issue the constitution within a year. That is possible if they work with the same zeal. The parties should not let the people down,” he said, adding that the political parties need to be sincere and accountable towards the people, for the sake of the country and the people.
“The political parties have no alternative but to announce the constitution on time,” Regmi said.
