Shillong, December 14: The government intends to convert the North Eastern Police Academy here to a centre of excellence, Home Minister P Chidambaram today said.
“The academy which was established in 1978 did good work initially. But somehow it did not rise to its true potential. We intend to convert this institute into a centre of excellence so that it can be a shining example to other institutes,” Chidambaram said while addressing the 36th passing out parade of the academy here.
Referring to a grant of Rs 85 crore sanctioned two years ago to the academy that came under the Union Home Ministry in 2007, Chidambaram said a number of facilities were being added to the institute.
“Extension of the officers mess, purchase of goods and some other facilities have been completed.
