New Delhi: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour at northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden area, police said today.
The accused, identified as 32-year-old Satish, has been arrested after being booked under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Acts, they said.
According to police, the incident happened yesterday evening when the parents of the girl, residents of a slum cluster in Dilshad Garden area, asked Satish to look after the girl while they were away.
The accused allegedly lured the girl to a park nearby, where he allegedly tied her to a tree and raped her, he also thrashed the girl when she resisted, police said.
Satish fled the scene, when locals approached towards the park hearing the girl’s scream.
The girl was rescued by a group of locals who also informed her parents.
They informed the police and the girl was rushed to a hospital where rape was confirmed. The girl was sent for counseling, where she narrated her ordeal, said police.
Satish, an artisan at a local factory, was a trusted neighbour whom the girl’s parents knew for quite some time.
The accused was arrested from Seemapuri area and his mobile phone was confiscated to check if he had taken a video of the act, police said, adding that, Satish was produced before a court today which sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
