Neighbors push girl off terrace for resisting harassment in UP

New Delhi: A girl was allegedly pushed off a terrace by her neighbours in Ghazipur district. Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating into the incident and the girl is being treated for injuries. Her condition is said to be critical as per the latest inputs.

The matter was first reported to Mohammadabad police station in UP’s Ghazipur on October 23. In their initial complaint to the police, the girl’s family members alleged that she was thrashed and pushed off a terrace by neighbours after she resisted their attempts to harass her.

Superintendent of Police, Mau, Sushil Ghule said in a statement that the girl identified three accused by name in her statements to the police. The girl is being treated at a hospital in Azamgarh where her medical examination will take place, SP Ghule added.

All of the three accused have been arrested by police and will be sent to jail on stringent charges, Mau SP Sushil Ghule said in a video statement.

In her statement to the police, the girl alleged that the three accused repeatedly harassed her. When she objected to their behaviour, the accused physically assaulted her and later pushed her off a terrace resulting in severe injuries.

This incident comes in the wake of the alleged gangrape and subsequent death of a 19-year-old in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district. The Hathras case is being probed by the CBI.
