Nehru Zoological Park to be shifted to Shadnagar

Hyderabad: The proposal to shift the Hyderabad zoo out of its current premises is under consideration. Zoo authorities are mulling over shifting the Zoo at present located near Mir Alam Tank, old city of Hyderabad to forest area, 3 km from Shadnagar.

It is said that the government has directed to prepare a report in this connection. Due to its proximity to residential and industrial establishments the pollution level is high in the Hyderabad zoo is said to be having adverse effects on animals. Hence forest department is planning to develop New Zoological Park outside the city.

Sprawled over approximately 300 acres, at present, the Nehru Zoological Park is among the three most visited destinations in the city __ the other two being the Golconda Fort and Salar Jung museum. Moving it 45 km away from the city would affect its popularity.

Besides, shifted it will only help the real estate sector boom at the cost of the zoo which would clearly lose a lot of visibility.

It must be recalled that such a proposal was also under consideration 7 years ago but was shelved later.
