Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju today stressed on the need to accelerate the pace of development in North East region to integrate for better economy and focus on increasing infrastructural development in the area. Releasing a book entitled ‘North East Trilogy’ written by Mrs Dipti Bhalla and Mr Kunal Verma, here the Minister said that more water ways through river Brahamputra should be provided for better mobility and transportation facility, which would also be helpful for rapid movements of army troops and Border Roads Organisation. He said ‘if we see the ‘look at North East Policy’, we realise the importance of North East as the bridge for the ‘Eastern Economy’. He appreciated the efforts of the authors that a set three books highlights on the rich and diverse culture, tribes and land scape of the region and create awareness as many people are not aware of the region and its rich culture.
The Chief of Army Staff General V K Singh who received the set of books from the Minister said that the books show casing the North East areas are educative, pictorial, providing glimps of the rich heritage and natural resources of the region. He said assistance was being sought from the Government of India to get the books converted in vernacular for each states to be given to schools and colleges to make the people aware about north eastern region.
