National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Vice-Chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy said today that NDMA has called upon states to set up State Disaster Response Force (DRF) on the lines of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)to deal with disasters. Speaking to media on the sidelines of the 15th Annual National Conference of International Trauma Care, here Mr Reddy said that the people must be trained to handle large-scale disasters.
Trained people would be able to effectively handle the situation, Mr Reddy said adding the Disaster Response Force must also be able to manage the consequences of Chemical and Biological attacks. A mock mass casualty drills held at Gandhi Medical College compound here today organised by GVK EMRI 108 in association with International Trauma Care-Hyderabad Chapter and participated by various departments such as Police, Fire, Octopus, CLUES and Central Crime Branch to help in achieving preparedness for mass casualty scenarios, Mr Reddy said and added NDMA would organise more such mock drills to create awareness.
