New Delhi, March 05:) Under attack by BJP for the handling of Telangana issue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said there was a need for consensus on the issue of carving out a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.
Referring to BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu’s remark that Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattishgarh were created during NDA’s regime without any hassle, Singh told the Rajya Sabha that there was no difference of opinion among the stakeholders of the three states, which is not the case with Telangana.
He said the Sri Krishna Committee constituted to look into the issue will strive to build a broad consensus on Telangana by consulting all parties and eliciting their views, which is required.
Singh said the committee will identify a future plan of action and a roadmap for a solution and submit a report to the government by December 31, 2010.
